OAKLAND — Two suspects are in custody in connection with a recent shooting on a train departing from the West Oakland BART station. They were apprehended at the same station a few days later.
The shooting occurred on the afternoon of June 25. One passenger sustained minor injuries, and both suspects fled from the scene. Authorities temporarily closed the West Oakland BART station to investigate the incident.
Evidence involving the shooting was recorded on video by BART security cameras. Images of the suspects were shared with BART officers and other law enforcement agencies.
A few days later, a BART officer patrolling the Montgomery Street station in San Francisco recognized the two suspects.
The officer contacted the BART dispatch center and BART officers waited at the West Oakland station to arrest them. Later, both suspects were positively identified by the shooting victim.
One of the suspects is Selvin Lopez, 28 of San Francisco. Lopez presently faces eight firearms- related charges, including assault with a firearm.
At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly in possession of controlled substances for sale. He was arrested again the following day at Santa Rita Jail, regarding the drugs. Possible additional charges involving the drugs are pending.
The second suspect is Jeysi A. Sotoguzman, 18 of Oakland. Sotoguzman presently faces eight firearms-related charges, including assault with a firearm. She is also being held at Santa Rita Jail.
