Shasta County man arrested for alleged possession of obscene material involving children

“On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, 51-year-old William Arthur Garrett of Redding was arrested in connection to a child pornography investigation.
The case began as a tip received in 2019 by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), regarding internet activity and downloading of suspected child pornography.
The IP address associated with the activity was linked to an unknown location in the City of Shasta Lake.
The case was actively investigated, and Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant requesting subscriber information for the IP address associated with the illegal internet activity. It was discovered the accounts were connected to William Garrett who was now living in the City of Redding.
Throughout the investigation, search warrants were obtained, and Garrett’s phone and other electronic devices were collected and processed as evidence. Detectives established probable cause and on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, Garrett was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of 311.11(A) PC F (37087) PC Posess/etc obscene matter of minor in sexual act, and 853.7 PC M (50032) PC Fail to appear after written promise. Garrett’s bail is set at $27,500.”
