“Last night at approximately 11 pm officers responded to a call regarding a victim of a shooting to the rear of a residence in the 300 block of Homestead Ave. Dispatch was also informed the suspect was still on the property.
Officers arrived on scene and encountered the victim’s father in a struggle with the suspect, Angel Odon Herrera (31). Officers detained Herrera and then located the victim, Javier Mora Jr. (25) suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation revealed Herrera arrived at the victim’s residence and prior to the shooting there was an argument between Herrera and the victim. That argument resulted in Herrera shooting the victim. Family members who heard the shots rushed to where the shooting occurred and began struggling with the suspect until police arrived.
Angel Herrera was later transferred to the Monterey County Jail and booked for the homicide. This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact Detective Alex Zamora at 758-7148 or if you wish to remain anonymous you can call our Tip Line at 775-4222.”
