Three Suspects in Custody for Alleged Murder-Robbery of Victim Chased on Freeway
MARTINEZ — Three gang members are in custody in connection with the murder-robbery of a victim chased on a freeway. Arrests were made by Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Oakland police.
The victim 20-year-old Basil Jilani was killed March 23 in an unincorporated area of Contra Costa County. He died at the scene on the outskirts of Lafayette, near Taylor Road and Gloria Terrace.
Investigators determined the victim was targeted and pursued while driving on a freeway through Concord. After the victim crashed his Mercedes-Benz, he was shot and robbed of his Rolex watch.
Don-Juan Defore Watson, Jr., 19 of Antioch, and Jalin Washington, 20 of San Francisco, were arrested on July 20. They were taken into custody on the 4800 block of Vineland Road in Antioch by sheriff’s deputies.
Watson and Washington were booked into the Martinez Detention Facility and charged with multiple crimes. Amir Roof-Anderson, 24 of Oakland, was already in custody when he was arrested in connection with the fatal robbery.
Roof-Anderson was arrested July 20 at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where he has been in custody since June 28 for weapons-related charges.
Known members of a street gang, Watson, Washington, and Roof-Anderson all face charges for several crimes. This includes the fatal robbery last March.
Watson faces 17 charges, including murder, robbery, and weapons charges. Washington faces 31 charges including murder, robbery, and weapons charges. Roof-Anderson faces 9 charges, including robbery, weapons, and conspiracy charges.
