Los Angeles man wanted for allegedly stabbing ex-girlfriend arrested in Indiana
A Los Angeles man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend fourteen times was located and arrested in Indiana.
Gerber Efrain Canizalez-Estrada (40) had been wanted for attempted murder for nearly two months before he was located and arrested by special agents from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and officers from the Columbus Police Department. He was taken into custody on July 27th and awaits extradition back to California.
The victim, Estrada’s ex-girlfriend, was found by Buena Park police around 12:34 AM on June 2nd, in the 6100 block of Orangethorpe Avenue. Estrada had fled the scene before officers arrived.
The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition for treatment of her fourteen stab wounds. No further information was given regarding her current condition.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Estrada and requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service to find him. He was finally located and contacted during a traffic stop in Columbus Indiana.
According to Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman, Estrada initially gave officers a false name and fraudulent identification. His true identity was confirmed shortly afterwards, and he was placed under arrest for a California warrant, possession of a false government identification card, false informing, and operating a vehicle without a license. Estrada will face the attempted murder charge once extradited back to Orange County.
