Nevada City Police Department:
“Police Activity: Yesterday at about 1:38 PM, NCPD was dispatched to Galena Way for a disturbance with a woman screaming.
While the officers were walking down the long, narrow driveway toward the residence, they observed 39-year-old John Grimes in the driver’s seat of a U-Haul truck near the residence. Instead of complying with officers’ request to exit the truck and talk, he revved the engine and accelerated up the driveway placing the responding officers at risk.
While other officers responded to canvass for the bolting U-Haul, the first on-scene gathered information that became consistent with a violent case of domestic violence. Besides the fresh potential criminal charges, Grimes was also wanted in another county on a burglary charge.
NCPD located the U-Haul truck crashed and abandoned several miles away. GVPD joined in for an area foot search but it was soon determined the suspect had hopped into another vehicle and left the area.
NCPD continued with the investigation, canvassing for Grimes in a number of areas in Grass Valley and the county. This relentless work paid off at about 10:30 PM, as NCPD closed in on Gold Drive located just outside of Grass Valley.
While on foot, NCPD located Grimes standing next to a car parked in a driveway. He was quickly apprehended. No one was injured.
NCPD would like to thank the residents in the various areas we searched, especially late at night, for giving us space and supporting our effort to apprehend Grimes.
Grimes was booked into the Nevada County Jail charged with: assault on the officers, evading, domestic violence, and drug possession. The county holding the burglary warrant was advised, as well.”
