In a demonstration of efficient and relentless inter-departmental and cross-jurisdictional collaboration among multiple law enforcement jurisdictions, 22-year-old Thousand Oaks resident Devon Joelson now sits behind bars in the Ventura County Jail facing multiple counts of child luring and child sexual assault with his bail set at $1,000,000.
In what Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman indicates is “an ongoing investigation” into Joelson’s activities over recent months, his arrest pursuant to the service of a search warrant on his residence on the morning of August 2 nd is the result of three months of effort on the part of personnel from VCSD Camarillo Investigations, Thousand Oaks Investigations, Thousand Oaks Patrol, Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit, VCSD’s Major Crimes Unit, Crime Analysis Unit,, the Southern California High Tech Task Force, and the Los Angeles regional internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
It all began in March of 2022 when Camarillo Patrol Deputies fielded a report of a juvenile female who had been contacted by an adult male “over a social media application.” This contact allegedly involved the solicitation of “child sexual abuse material” by Joelson, which was followed by a meeting between him and the juvenile female “at a local park where he attempted to sexually abuse her.”
With that report in hand, deputies then “authored numerous search warrants,” the service of which indicated that Joelson had communicated over social media with multiple juvenile females for the purposes of instigating a variety of sexual contacts.
With the investigation ongoing, in May of 2022 Joelson was the subject of a domestic violence incident reported at a Thousand Oaks residence in which another juvenile female was allegedly sexually abused by him. He was arrested at that time and released on bail and proceeded to once again contact the underage female for the purposes of sexual contact.
Joelson remains in custody as the investigation continues with the VCSD assuming “there could be additional victims.”
