“On Wednesday around 10a.m., deputies responded to Jamestown Elementary School for a report of vandalism and attempted gas theft from a school bus at the Chinese Camp Campus. The deputy viewed video surveillance of the incident and was able to see the suspect and suspect vehicle. The deputy and school staff drove to the Chinese Camp Campus and saw the same man and vehicle from the surveillance footage. The deputy spoke to the man, 29-year-old Spencer Stewart, and immediately noticed that Stewart smelled of diesel fuel. The deputy detained Stewart and conducted a records check. He discovered that Stewart had warrants for his arrest.
The deputy searched Stewart’s vehicle and found several fuel cans, hoses, a homemade hand-pump system, a large tank, and drug use paraphernalia. He also found two plastic tubs under the school bus containing diesel fuel. The fuel tank had been drilled into and a fitting that appeared to be homemade had been installed into the tank. Damage to the fuel tank was estimated to be around $1,500 and approximately $195 in diesel fuel had been removed from the bus.
Stewart was arrested and booked at the Dambacher Detention Center on charges of felony vandalism, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, along with his outstanding warrants.”
