BRENTWOOD — A man and a juvenile were arrested in connection with a murder at a gym. This fatal shooting occurred on August 11 shortly before 2 a.m., outside 24 Hour Fitness on Lone Tree Way.
Faatino A. Tauane, 20, of Pittsburg, was arrested August 24. He was taken into custody by a SWAT team at a residence on the 900 block of Myrtlewood Drive in Antioch. Tauane was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility.
Before his arrest, a 17-year-old juvenile from Brentwood was arrested on August 11. However, he was released from custody when investigators determined he was not the shooter. Although the juvenile was wounded by gunfire when the shooting occurred.
Unfortunately, Cesar Arana, 21, of Antioch, was killed. Investigators determined Arana was a bystander when a fight started outside the gym. He was shot while helping a person fallen to the ground during the fight. Though he was not involved in the fight.
Security video provided by staff at 24 Hour Fitness was instrumental in this homicide investigation. Tauane was positively identified as the murder suspect.
Tauane was apprehended by a SWAT team three days after the fatal shooting occurred. On August 26, he was charged with one count of murder with enhancements, and other felony charges.
The getaway car allegedly used to flee from the crime scene was impounded by Brentwood police. One of the two guns involved in this shooting has been recovered. Incidentally, Tauane has a prior arrest in December 2021 for carrying a concealed loaded firearm.
