Suspect Held for $6.5 Million Bond for a Murder at Southside Community Park

RICHMOND – Gregory A. Bonner Jr., 48, remains in custody in lieu of $6.5 million bond, following his arrest on August 24. Bonner is charged with murdering a man at Southside Community Park four days earlier.

Officers responded to gunshots on August 20 at the park. They located the victim, 33-year-old Oakland resident Jeremy Griego suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Richmond homicide detectives obtained a video that shows the suspect and victim exiting a car at the park. The two men entered the park, where an altercation erupted between them, culminating in the victim being shot.

Additional video and witness statements indicate there was an ongoing argument between the two men. Detectives later located the vehicle associated with this homicide, with Bonner sitting in the driver’s seat.

Bonner was arrested at a homeless encampment near RingCentral Coliseum on 71 st Street in Oakland. He was booked in the Martinez Detention Facility on August 22. Bonner was charged on August 24 with murder with malice aforethought PC 187(a). He is also charged with intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury PC 12000.53(d)The suspect has previous convictions for violent felonies. He has numerous prior arrests for assault, battery, and firearms-related charges dating back to at least 2010.
