Shasta County Man Accused of Shooting at Vehicle Claimed Self-Defense, Sheriff’s Office Says
A Shasta County man was arrested for allegedly shooting at a vehicle, which he claimed was in self-defense, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
On the afternoon of Thursday, September 29, deputies responded to a report that a man had fired multiple shots at a moving vehicle in the area of First Street in Cottonwood, near West Cottonwood Junior High.
While deputies were en route, the man — identified as 31-year-old Eric Partida — reportedly called the Sheriff’s Office and claimed that he’d shot at the vehicle in self-defense. Deputies and CHP then responded to Patrida’s home, where they ultimately confiscated the handgun used in the alleged shooting.
Investigators also collected evidence from the area of First Street, west of the I-5 overcrossing, which corroborated witness statements regarding the incident.
Partida was ultimately arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, the Sheriff’s Office said.
