Pasadena police have announced the recent seizure of a large amount of “rainbow” fentanyl.

On September 24, investigators seized approximately 320,000 fentanyl pills — including several packages of rainbow fentanyl — along with two kilos of cocaine and a ghost gun. The seizure of these contraband are the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation, according to a Pasadena PD press release.

“Rainbow fentanyl” is described as illegal fentanyl pills manufactured in candy colors.

The CDC estimates that over 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2021, with 66 percent of those overdoses related to synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, making it the deadliest drug-related threat in the country by this metric.

Thusfar in 2022, Pasadena police — in coordination with other law enforcement entities — have reportedly seized over 700,000 fentanyl pills and over 31 kilos of fentanyl.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Police have not said whether any arrests were made as a result of this seizure.
