OAKLAND —Kahalil A. Attiba, 40, of Oakland, who uses a wheelchair, is in custody ineligible for release on bond. Attiba faces multiple charges in connection with the murder of a man earlier this month.
The victim Louis “Joey” Truehill, a 60-year-old Oakland resident, was fatally shot on the 1300 block of Kirkham Street. Patrol officers responded to this shooting October 3 shortly before 3 p.m.
Officers found Truehill, suffering from severe gunshot wounds. It seems a disagreement concerning payment for drugs, between the suspect and victim escalated to violence. Evidently, the victim attempted to take the gun from the suspect after being shot once. Then he was shot multiple more times.
Although the victim received first aid from paramedics, he died at the scene. Truehill’s murder marks the 100th homicide in Oakland this year. Witnesses saw it happen.
An investigation was conducted by the Oakland police homicide section, Oakland Housing Authority Police, and U.S. Marshals Service. The inquiry resulted in Attiba’s arrest two days later, October 5 at 3:02 p.m. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin the following day.
Attiba was charged on October 6 for murder, carrying a concealed firearm and multiple related charges. Altogether he faces a total of 21 charges.
Attiba is scheduled to appear November 8 for a plea hearing at Wiley M. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland. The suspect is a convicted felon with prior convictions for illicit drug possession.
