“Last Friday in Solano County Superior Court, a jury found 35-year-old Eliberto Gutierrez of Dixon guilty of continuous sex crimes against a child.
The assaults happened between 2017 and 2019 while Gutierrez lived in Woodland and Dixon. Gutierrez molested a young relative while her mother was working a night shift. In 2019, the victim confronted her abuser and told him to stop, but Gutierrez threatened her. The allegations came to light in 2020 when the victim bravely told her mother about the abuse. The mother immediately called law enforcement and a safety plan was developed to remove the kids from the home.
A forensic interview was conducted with the victim and probable cause was developed to arrest the defendant. The Solano County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau was able to take the defendant into custody during a traffic stop. Investigators discovered that the defendant had purchased a one-way bus ticket to Tijuana Mexico and was on his way to the bus station when he was stopped.
The case went to trial and after a month of court proceedings where the victim and her family courageously took the witness stand, a jury convicted Gutierrez of his crimes.
We thank the family for their resilience, cooperation, and heart during the investigation and prosecution of this case. The case was investigated by Solano Sheriff Detective Danny Schilling and prosecuted by Solano County District Attorney’s Office Deputy District Attorney Barry Shapiro.
The investigation showed no evidence that any other children in the home were victimized. Gutierrez is scheduled to return to court on January 20, 2023, for sentencing.
If you or someone you know has been the victim of sexual assault, we ask you to please inform your local law enforcement.”
