Kings County Man Accused of Brutalizing and Attempting to Kidnap Ex-Girlfriend

A Kings County man was recently arrested for allegedly brutalizing and trying to kidnap his ex-girlfriend, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Around 12:30 AM on Wednesday, October 12, deputies responded to the 300 block of King Street in Kettleman City for a report of domestic violence. At the scene, the victim told deputies that her ex-boyfriend — identified as 42-year-old Demetrio Castro — had broken into the home she shared with her 13-year-old son and elderly mother as she and her son were getting ready for bed.
The victim told deputies that Castro grabbed her in a bear hug and forced her toward the front door. The victim’s mother tried to intervene by holding onto her daughter’s pants, but Castro allegedly jerked the victim away, pulling the victim’s mother to the floor and causing injury to her knees, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Castro allegedly forced the victim outside and toward his vehicle down the street, and attempted to force her into his car despite her protests. Demetrio finally disengaged after a neighbor approached and told Castro he’d called the Sheriff’s Office. Castro reportedly then released the victim and fled the scene in his vehicle.
The victim sustained several injuries and required treatment at an area hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were soon able to obtain Castro’s address, but found he wasn’t home when they went to arrest him. He was ultimately located and arrested the next day by Avenal PD and turned over to the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
Castro was booked at the Kings County jail on suspicion of domestic violence, kidnapping, false imprisonment, elder abuse, burglary, and attempted to dissuade a victim or witness. He is being held without bail.
