A Riverside County man was recently arrested on suspicion of mail theft.

Crate of stolen mail

31-year-old Pierce Adriaanse of Riverside was reportedly arrested after residents in the Wood Streets area of Riverside noticed a man behaving suspiciously, as well as what appeared to be a large amount of mail stashed in the trunk of his car.

One responding officer realized that the man’s vehicle — described as a grey Nissan Sentra — matched the description of a vehicle tied to the alleged theft of a crate of mail from a USPS truck on the Eastside shortly before, police said.

The officer reportedly spotted the vehicle as they arrived at the call and detained Adriaanse, whom the officer recognized from previous encounters. Adriaanse is currently active Post-Release Community Supervision, police said.

Adriaanse was arrested on suspicion of mail theft, obstructing police, and violation of PRCS. The stolen mail was returned to its intended recipients, police said.
