“Recently, officers from the Sacramento Police Department’s South Gang Enforcement Team developed information regarding a suspect illegally distributing firearms in Sacramento. The evidence established the suspect sold multiple guns, including privately manufactured firearms, commercially manufactured firearms, assault weapons, and suppressors. After discovering this information, the Sacramento Area ATF Task Force took over the investigation.
On October 12, Sacramento Police Department Officers and Special Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence. During a home search, investigators located evidence relating to the private manufacturing of firearms, completed firearms, and an item used to allow fully automatic gunfire from a handgun.
This investigation highlights the collaborative efforts of the Sacramento Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Recently, our department added additional investigators to the ATF Task Force to reduce violent crime in our community, detailed in our Department’s Violent Crime Reduction Strategy. One aspect of that strategy includes conducting long-term investigations into illegal gun manufacturing, including “ghost guns.””
