On November 30th Hollister PD Officers Pompa and Robledo went to Hollister High School and spoke to 550 students about the dangers of drinking and driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
The need for such events in schools was emphasized by a Juvenile DUI and evasion arrest just 1 day prior to the event.
On November 29th , a Hollister PD School Resource Officer made an attempted traffic stop at around 3:15 off of Nash Rd. The driver then attempted to flee from the Officer and a brief chase ensued.
As the pursuit was underway the suspect’s vehicle stopped for a brief moment. When the vehicle stopped four unknown juveniles fled from the vehicle and began to run. The driver then took off again.
After he drove a little further he finally decided to stop the pursuit and pulled over. The driver was a juvenile and also was intoxicated. The juvenile was taken into custody and charged with evading a police officer and DUI. He was held at the Flynn Inn Annex Juvenile Hall.
In addition to educating the students of Hollister High School about DUI prevention and risks, Hollister PD is also hosting a DUI education event for the community. The Community DUI Education Workshop will be held on December 17th at 3pm at the Hollister Police Department located at 395 Apollo Way, Hollister, CA 95023. Anyone can attend there is no need to register or RSVP you can just come and hear what the officers have to share in concern to DUI prevention.
Much like the rest of the state, San Benito County sees a number of both adult and juvenile DUI arrests each year, but they are mostly trending downward (likely due in part to these sort of community education efforts).
