On November 30th, 2022 Mendocino Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call reporting two intoxicated individuals. Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the scene and located the two people immediately.

As the Deputy approached the individuals one of the suspects began to walk away. The Deputy told the man, later identified as Johny Nunez-Garcia, to stop. Nunez-Garcia then began to run away from the Deputy.

A short chase ensued, however the Deputy quickly was able to catch up to Nunez-Garcia. As he was attempting to detain him, Nunez-Garcia began to hit the Deputy. The Deputy moved away to avoid the blows and Nunez-Garcia took the opportunity and again ran away.

Again the Deputy quickly caught up with the suspect, and with the assistance of a good Samaritan, was able to get Nunez-Garcia placed under arrest.

It was clearly apparent that Nunez-Garcia was heavily intoxicated and was not able to take care of himself and could be a danger to himself and others. He was booked at the Mendocino County Jail and held on $15,000 bail.

The Deputy, though in pain from the struggle, only suffered minor injuries and is expected to recover.
