Man Allegedly Tried to Carjack Ambulance, Run Paramedics Over

A San Francisco man was reportedly arrested after allegedly trying to carjack an ambulance and run over the two paramedics who’d been inside.

According to a media release via Facebook from San Francisco PD, a suspect had broken into a Fire Department ambulance on the 1700 block of Harrison Street on the morning of August 29. Police say the suspect used a wooden object to smash the windows.

When the two paramedics inside got out, the suspect allegedly tried to run them over with the ambulance before ultimately fleeing the scene on foot.

SFPD General Work unit investigators were soon able to identify the primary suspect as 33-year-old Francisco Vargas-Osario. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Vargas-Osario.

On December 8, an off-duty officer spotted Vargas-Osario in the area of 7th and Minna Streets and advised police department dispatch, who sent officers to the location. Officers contacted and arrested Vargas-Osario without incident, police said.

Vargas-Osario was booked at the San Francisco County jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, vandalism, and other charges.
