On December 2nd, 2022 – Sheriff’s Deputies made a traffic stop that led to an arrest for a stolen firearm.
Deputies of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office performed extra patrols in the San Andreas Areas. The extra patrols were due to increased reports of criminal activity in the area.
While patrolling the intersection of Churchill Road and St Charles Street, Deputies observed a Sedan driving through the intersection without stopping at the stop sign. Deputies pulled the driver over and performed a traffic stop. As they approached the vehicle the Deputies noticed an open container of Vodka within reach of the driver.
After removing the driver, identified as Vernon Keith Moore (38), they began a search of the vehicle. During the search the Deputies found what appeared to be a baggie with Methamphetamine, and a firearm located in the center console of the vehicle.
When the Deputies ran the firearms serial number they learned that the weapon was reported stolen in Valley Springs about a month prior. They also learned that Moore is not legally allowed to possess any firearms.
Moore was arrested and booked into the county jail. He is being charged with carrying a stolen firearm, prohibited person possessing a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, possession of open container, and failing to stop at a stop sign.
