SACRAMENTO — At 9:17 AM on December 21, 2022, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call out of the area of McKinley Avenue in unincorporated south Sacramento County.
The caller had reported that his son, Juan Martinez, had a gun and was firing shots. He requested that law enforcement respond. Others also called and reported that Martinez shot at a neighbor’s residence, as well as discharging rounds into the air, the Sheriff’s Office said.
When deputies arrived on scene, Martinez was inside a residence on the property alone.
Deputies learned that a 68-year-old family member had also allegedly been assaulted by Martinez.
Specialized Enforcement Detail responded to the scene a short time later and attempted to call out to Martinez to exit and surrender safely.
Martinez continued to refuse, telling law enforcement to leave. He then allegedly fired a round through a window at one of the deputies.
After a minor standoff, Martinez was taken into custody with the assistance of a K9 deputy.
Martinez was arrested and charged with several felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer and elder abuse.
