ANTIOCH — A woman faces charges for murder and intentional discharge of a firearm for allegedly shooting her next-door neighbor. The suspect has one prior arrest for battery on her record.
A verbal argument between two women escalated to a physical fight, which evidently ended with gunfire. The fatal shooting occurred December 27th on the 2300 block of Mandarin Way. Police began receiving 911 calls at 2:13 p.m.
Responding officers found the victim, 31-year-old Hannisha J. Willis, suffering from a single gunshot wound in her head. The victim was lying on the sidewalk in a pool of blood when police arrived. She was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Investigators believe the suspect retrieved a handgun from her residence prior to a confrontation with the victim. One gunshot discharged as the two women fought. The firearm allegedly used by the suspect was recovered by detectives as evidence.
A few hours after this fatal shooting, Serico Justice (37) was arrested by Antioch detectives at 5:45 p.m. The incident was referred to the Contra County District Attorney’s Office on the following day. A murder charge with an enhancement was filed on December 29th.
Justice remains in custody in lieu of $2 million bond at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond. Her court arraignment has been scheduled for January 13th.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information can contact Antioch police detective Robert Gerber at 925-481-8297 or email rgerber@antiochca.gov .
