Ventura County, Ca. January 5, 2023 – Following series of property and identity thefts reminiscent of Sixties-era caper movies that might serve as a stark reminder to lock one’s doors at night, 28-year-old Burbank, Ca. resident Alibek Gabdel Nagim now sits in the Ventura County Jail facing multiple charges of residential burglary. According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Det. Sgt. Kevin Lynch, Nagim is suspected of being responsible for as many as “six different residences within two blocks of one another.”
Detectives attached to the VCSD Investigations Bureau and the Simi Valley Police Department Detective Bureau began investigating a rash of burglaries in the Dakota Drive neighborhood in the City of Moorpark on December 12, 2022 pursuant to a homeowner’s report of a burglary in which “several small items were missing or had been disturbed.” Detectives observed that “the residence was not ransacked” and that whomever had entered the home “attempted to minimize his presence” on the premises. The next day, those burglary victims reported unauthorized charges to their missing credit cards.
Surveillance video was obtained from retailers where the purloined credit cards had been recently used; at that point, the cops were on the trail of their suspect. Over the following two weeks, additional residential burglary reports with a similar modus operandi were received by detectives. On December 28th, Nagim was arrested as he was exiting a victim’s home in Simi Valley. Evidence found in his car tied him to “several additional burglaries,” some of which were still unknown by his victims. On January 6th, Nagim was charged and remains in custody with his bail set at $100,000.
