Santa Barbara County, Ca. January 7, 2023 –Based upon the events taking place on the morning of January 5th in their Lompoc residence, it’s doubtful if either 36-year-old Jessie McCoy or her partner 31-year-old Robert Curtis will be considered for any future Parent of the Year Award.
According to Lompoc Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jorge Magana, a 911 Emergency call for service emanating from McCoy’s North F Street Lompoc home brought Lompoc Fire Department and American Medical Response teams to the scene of a possible “opioid overdose,” only to discover that the victim was “an unresponsive one-year-old child.”
Hot on the heels of emergency medical responders was a Lompoc Police Department patrol unit, pursuant to “the report of an unresponsive child exposed to fentanyl.” The child was immediately treaded with Narcan at the scene “and was fortunately revived” before being transported to Lompoc Valley Medical Clinic for follow-up care.
The immediately ensuing investigation by Lompoc detectives indicated that McCoy and Curtis had unwittingly exposed the child by possessing fentanyl-laced “fake prescription pills” in the home. Both McCoy and Curtis were taken into custody and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where they were booked on charged of felony child endangerment.
