“Merced – Gage Ayala (19) was arrested on weapon charges after a foot chase through a church parking lot.
On Thursday, January 19th, 2023 at 7:30 PM, Officer Lopez made a vehicle stop near Loughborough Drive & M Street. Ayala fled from the vehicle with a backpack. Ayala was apprehended on the property of First Baptist Church.
Officers located the backpack that Ayala discarded during the foot chase. The backpack contained an AR-style pistol, 9mm semi-automatic firearm, high-capacity magazines, and ammunition.
Ayala was booked into custody at the Merced County Jail on weapon charges.
