“On 1/20/23, at about 9:08 pm, CPD officers, Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County, and American Medical Response responded to the 1900 block of 46th Ave regarding a report of an explosion. Upon arrival, officers evacuated two adult males and one juvenile male from the residence. One adult male was injured by the explosion and transported to the hospital for minor burns and pulmonary related issues.
As firefighters checked the residence, they noticed items that appeared to be explosive devices. The surrounding residential units were evacuated and the @santacruzcountyso Bomb Team responded. The Bomb Team determined the explosion was caused by the extraction process of an illegal substance and there were no explosive devices present. CPD Criminal Investigation Unit detectives responded and wrote a Search Warrant for the residence. Several types of illegal substances were located during the search.
Both males were arrested for child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy, and manufacturing a controlled substance.
The juvenile was placed with a family member.”
