A Butte County man was recently arrested after police reportedly spotted him driving a truck that had just been reported stolen, according to press release from Oroville PD.
Shortly before 6 AM on January 21, officers on patrol near the area of Oro Dam and Feather River Boulevards in Oroville witnessed a white 2003 Ford F250 pulling into a McDonald’s parking lot. At the time, the vehicle was in the process of being reported stolen, police said.
Officers contacted the driver — identified as 28-year-old Austin Somera of Paradise — as he exited the truck, and learned that a trailer had been attached to the truck at the time it had been taken and was still missing. Somera directed deputies to the trailer’s whereabouts, in the area of Highway 70 and Pentz Road.
The owner was later brought out to inspect the trailer, and told deputies at that time that he was still missing four ATV tires, police said.
Somera reportedly admitted to being in possession of the truck and trailer, and was later booked at the Butte County jail on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, possession of a stolen vehicle, and grand theft. His bail was set at $45,000.
