OAKLEY— Police arrested three men suspected of stealing mail and notified the Postal Inspection Service, which joined this ongoing investigation. Mail from 34 different households was found in possession of the suspects.
On February 6 at 3:21 a.m., a resident reported a suspicious black sedan. It was driving slowly near Golden Oak Manor, a senior citizens apartment building at 5000 Kelsey Lane. It seems the occupants were stealing mail.
Responding officers pulled over the driver. An identification check revealed that a passenger in the back seat was on probation. He was instructed to step outside of the car for officers to conduct a probation compliance check.
As the man exited, officers saw mail scattered on the floor in the back of the car. At this point, all three occupants were detained, and officers searched the sedan. Mail from Kelsey Lane area residents was found, in addition to mail belonging to residents elsewhere in Oakley and Antioch.
At 3:58 a.m., officers arrested two Antioch residents, Franklin A. Huffman (37) and Thomas Costa (31). The third suspect arrested is Pittsburg resident 26-year-old Jordan T. Hanson.
Huffman and Hanson are each being held in custody in lieu of $70,000 bond. Huffman is at the Martinez Detention Facility and Hanson is at the West County Detention Facility. Huffman and Hanson face charges for obtaining credit using other person’s identity and conspiracy to commit crime.
Bond was set at $105,000 for Costa who is being housed in Martinez. Costa faces charges for obtaining credit using other person’s identity and conspiracy to commit a crime, in addition to outstanding warrants. His other charges include petty theft and shoplifting under $950.
