“Last night, officers observed a Black Infiniti driving at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the roadway within the city limits. The vehicle turned its lighting equipment off and made a u-turn where it was prohibited. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the Infiniti, however it fled. A vehicle pursuit ensued in which the vehicle traveled at speeds more than 120 MPH. Due to the risk to public safety, the pursuit was terminated; however, officers were able to identify the driver of the vehicle and responded to the registered address and contacted his parents. The driver was contacted on the phone and admitted to driving the vehicle during the pursuit at approximately 120 to 140 MPH, without any lights on to evade Police, despite seeing their emergency lights, describing his actions as reckless. The driver was later located at the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and Harbor Boulevard where he was arrested without incident and transported and booked into Yolo County Jail and his Infiniti was impounded.
While our officers sometimes have to engage in dangerous situations, evaluating and minimizing the impact of these situations on the public is our highest priority. Though we may cancel a pursuit for officer and public safety, the pursuit doesn’t stop there. Our officers work to track down the vehicles and insure the driver is held accountable. Great job by the officers involved last night in locating the driver and ensuring he is held accountable!”
