ANTIOCH — A 23-year-old man with 11 previous arrests is in jail again on suspicion of attempted murder and weapons charges. Malik D. Jefferson who lives in Livermore is now in custody in lieu of $1.2 million bond.
The Antioch Police Gang and Special Investigations Unit identified Jefferson as a suspect in a shooting that happened December 12. This shooting occurred at approximately 1:06 p.m., near Peppertree Way and Sycamore Drive
The victim left the area before responding officers arrived. However, evidence of the shooting was found at the scene, including video recorded by a surveillance camera.
On February 16, officers found Jefferson driving along Vasco Road in Brentwood. He was pulled over in a traffic stop, and he was arrested on a Ramey Warrant. His Livermore residence was searched for additional evidence.
Jefferson was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility once again. In 2020 he was arrested seven times; twice in 2019 and twice in 2018. His prior arrests resulted in convictions for illegal weapons possession. Jefferson is a former longtime resident of Antioch.
For his most recent arrest, Jefferson was booked this time for attempted murder. He also faces charges for firearm discharge with negligence, and four weapons-related charges.
The investigation of the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information can email Antioch police detective Arturo Becerra at abecerra@antiochca.gov.
