A Santa Rosa woman is reportedly set to face charges in connection to a DUI collision last week.
According to a police press release, early on the morning of February 17th, 2023, Santa Rosa PD received several 911 calls reporting a vehicle accident at the intersection of West Steele Lane and Northcoast Street (pictured above).
Responding officers arrived at the scene to discover a white Toyota Camry overturned with major front-end damage, having apparently collided with a blue metal bus stop housing and a large portion of a fence for an adjacent apartment complex. Santa Rosa PD Accident Investigators were also called to the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 49-year-old Maricelia Roman of Santa Rosa, was able to exit the car without assistance, but reportedly displayed signs of being under the influence. She was transported to a nearby hospital to treat injuries sustained during the accident.
Roman submitted to a chemical test to determine the amount of alcohol in her system, which was found to be more than twice the legal limit of .08%. As a result, she was issued a promise to appear in court on charges of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and driving with a blood-alcohol level over .08%.
In addition to these charges, Roman was also found to be in violation of probation for no use of alcohol, leading to further legal complications. This violation may result in additional penalties, fines, and legal proceedings.
The Santa Rosa Police Department has a special unit of officers known as Accident Investigators, whose focus is on investigating collisions and apprehending drunk drivers.
