SAN RAMON, CA — Forest T. McCaskill, a 26-year-old resident of Concord, has been taken into custody for an attempted murder. McCaskill allegedly shot a woman on February 18 at an apartment complex in San Ramon.
McCaskill was identified as the suspected gunman at Mill Creek at Windemere Apartments at 2100 Waterstone Place. This shooting occurred at approximately 11 p.m. It happened a short distance from the Diablo Valley College San Ramon Campus and Windemere Ranch Middle School.
San Ramon police responded to reports of shots fired, but the perpetrator had already fled from the scene. Responding officers found a bloodied woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital to receive medical treatment. Fortunately, she is expected to fully recover.
San Ramon PD patrol officers and San Ramon detectives investigated the incident. Information they obtained led authorities to believe the suspect had probably fled to Southern California.
San Ramon detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of McCaskill, as the inquiry expanded to become a multi-agency investigation.
McCaskill was indeed found in Southern California. He was arrested by Anaheim police and booked into jail in Orange County on February 20. His transfer to custody in Contra Costa County is imminent.
The case is being reviewed by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. McCaskill stands accused of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, among other criminal offenses.
