FAIRFIELD — An 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of marijuana, police announced in a recent press release.
A Fairfield PD officer was on duty near Pennsylvania Avenue and West Texas Street on the night of Monday, February 20, when he saw a dark gray Honda Civic leaving a gas station. The station was closed and there were no lights on either in the convenience store or at the gas pumps. The officer also noticed that the Honda had aftermarket tint on the front windows, which was a violation of California law, police said.
The officer tried to stop the car but by the time he made a U-turn, the driver had fled the area. Just minutes later, the officer spotted the same Honda Civic parked at another gas station on the 1400 block of West Texas Street. The driver, later identified as Damian Sarbozo of Patterson, was inside the store.
Upon contacting Sarbozo, the officer noticed that he appeared to be nervous, and later noticed cannabis in view on the inside of the vehicle door.
After speaking with Sarbozo, the officer suspected he was under the age of 21 and thus illegally in possession of marijuana. the officer then asked Sarbozo if he had a gun in the car and, in order to search it, began to remove Sarbozo from the car. Sarbozo allegedly tried to pull away from the officer, which led to the officer discovering a loaded handgun in Sarbozo’s waistband.
The officer conducted a thorough search of the car and discovered a small backpack containing two pre-rolled marijuana joints, as well as finding a plastic bag full of Ziploc-style baggies, typically used for packaging marijuana for sale, on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat.. A single bullet was also found on the backseat.
Sarbozo was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of marijuana. The car was impounded.
