ANTIOCH — With help from the U.S. Marshals Service, an Antioch Police Department SWAT team arrested a suspected murderer. A handgun that the suspect allegedly used to shoot the victim was recovered as evidence during an early morning law enforcement operation.
The victim 17-year-old Anthony Westbrook was fatally shot on September 4, 2022. Westbrook was gunned down during a drive-by shooting on the 1100 block of Macauley Street in Antioch. The victim perished outside his grandmother’s home.
The suspect identified as Anthony McCoy, 20, of Brentwood, was placed under arrest early February 28. A warrant was served shortly before 6 a.m. to search a residence on the 2400 block of Shady Willow Lane in Brentwood.
The Antioch Police Department’s violent crimes unit SWAT team and federal marshals found a Glock .40 caliper handgun inside the residence. The same caliper bullet casings were found at the murder scene last September in Antioch.
McCoy was taken into custody and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. Following an exhaustive homicide investigation, authorities presented evidence to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
Felony charges were filed on March 1. McCoy faces charges for murder PC 187(a) and conspiracy to commit a crime PC 182(A)(1).
The investigation of this fatal shooting remains ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Antioch police detective Robert Gerber at 925-779-6943 or email rgerber@antiochca.gov.
