Report: Tulare County Grand Theft Investigation Leads to Discovery of BHO Lab, Severely Neglected Horses

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office has announced via press release the arrest of a suspect in connection to a recently discovered butane honey oil operation in Alpaugh.

Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Ag Crimes Detectives served a warrant at a home in the 3700 Block of Atwell Street in Alpaugh on March 7, 2023. The warrant was related to a grand theft investigation and reportedly led to the discovery of additional alleged crimes.

During the search, detectives reportedly discovered an active butane honey oil lab, partially processed marijuana, and fourteen guns, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators also reportedly found three horses in dire need of care. The horses’ hooves were reportedly untreated, requiring immediate intervention.

Detectives arrested 59-year-old Jesse Atkins, the owner of the residence, on suspicion of animal cruelty, possession of narcotics with access to firearms, and operating an active butane honey oil lab.

The horses were removed from the property and are now under the care of Animal Control, the Sheriff’s Office said.
