Santa Monica Police Call on Public for Help in Felony Assault Investigation

Santa Monica police are calling on the public for help in identifying a suspect in an assault that occurred in early January.

In a press release issued on Thursday, March 9, police released details of the incident, which occurred on the night of Tuesday, January 10th.

Shortly after 11:30 PM, patrol officers responded to the site of a reported solo vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of 17th and Olympic. At the scene, officers reportedly discovered a white four-door Jeep Wrangler that had jumped the curb and collided with a nearby wall.

Police spoke with the solo occupant of the vehicle — a woman whose name has not been released — whom they say had sustained “significant injuries to her face” and had blood on her hands, face, and body.

Officers soon realized that the woman’s injuries were inconsistent with the nature of the accident, and discovered that she had trouble recalling the past several hours, including how she got hurt.

Police say that, based on the victim’s injuries and evidence collected from inside the vehicle, they believe the victim had been violently attacked inside the vehicle.

Investigators have reportedly yet to locate any public or private security footage that may provide more information, and are calling on the public to come forward with any information that may be relevant to the case.

Anyone with information is strongly encouraged to contact Santa Monica Police Detective Brian Spencer at 310-458-8420, via e-mail at brian.spencer@santamonica.gov, or to contact the 24-hour Watch Commander line at 310-458-8426.
