Suspect Identified, Arrested in Fatal Stabbing on East San Ysidro Boulevard
San Diego law enforcement have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to a fatal stabbing.
The incident was reported to the San Diego Police Communications Center just before 2:30 AM on March 8, 2023.
The caller reportedly informed the authorities that a man had been stabbed at a gas station located on the 300 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard. Officers from Southern Division reached the scene shortly thereafter, where they found the victim suffering from at least one stab wound to his upper body.
Officers provided emergency medical assistance until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital. However, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:05 AM, police said.
Homicide Detectives were summoned to the scene for further investigation. During their preliminary investigation, the detectives learned that the victim was stabbed at a nearby vacant building located on the 100 block of Center Street, before he walked over to a nearby gas station parking lot and was discovered by concerned citizens, police said.
The detectives discovered that the victim had been with a group of people at the abandoned building when he was allegedly stabbed without provocation. The detectives were able to identify the suspect as Hector Alcantara, a San Diego resident. They also learned that Alcantara left for Mexico soon after the stabbing.
On March 8 at approximately 1:30 PM, Homicide Detectives were informed by officials from U.S. Customs and Border Protection that Alcantara was detained at the San Ysidro Point of Entry pedestrian gate located at 720 E. San Ysidro Boulevard.
San Diego Police Officers immediately responded to that location and arrested Alcantara on suspicion of murder.
Alcantara was booked into San Diego County jail on one count of murder. The deceased man has not been identified yet, but police have described him as a Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s.
The San Diego Police Department is requesting anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. All information will be kept confidential.
