Kings County Man Who Allegedly Fired at Deputies Wounded in Officer-Involved Shooting
A Kings County man with a lengthy criminal history has reportedly been wounded in an officer-involved shooting after allegedly brandishing a gun and shooting at deputies.
On the night of March 11th, Kings County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino to investigate reports of a man pointing a handgun at the driver of a red pickup truck, according to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office.
The man, identified as 37-year-old Timothy Jeff, was later seen approaching other vehicles in the area with the same weapon.
As the deputies arrived on the scene, Jeff reportedly attempted to flee and pointed his gun at one of the deputies, firing a shot in the process. He continued to flee on foot, firing a second shot towards the deputies. Jeff eventually took cover behind a car at the intersection of Jersey Avenue and 17th Avenue, attempting to gain access to the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies ordered Jeff to drop the weapon and surrender, but he refused and the situation continued to escalate. Eventually, an officer-involved shooting occurred, with Jeff being struck by at least one shot. He was then provided with medical aid and taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
After inspecting the weapon, authorities discovered that two shots had been fired from the revolver, while four rounds remained unfired. Jeff was also found to be on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).
Jeff reportedly has a long criminal record dating back to 1998. His convictions have included multiple evading a peace officer convictions, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, multiple drunk driving convictions, under the influence of a controlled substance, drunk driving causing bodily injury, multiple possession of a controlled substance in county jail or prison convictions, and violations of PRCS, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information related to the case is highly encouraged to contact the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
