Corona, CA – Police in Corona, California, have arrested a man suspected of attempted murder after a violent attack with a hatchet and knife at a local Planet Fitness gym. The incident took place on March 14, 2023, at around 9:20 AM, and involved Ronald Chand, a 30-year-old resident of Santa Ana, and a 41-year-old male resident of Riverside.
When officers from the Corona Police Department arrived on the scene, they found several citizens holding down Chand, who had been identified as the suspect. The victim, who had sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper body, was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment for his non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
During the investigation, police learned that the incident began in the parking lot when Chand approached the victim and attacked him with a hatchet and knife. The victim and Chand ultimately ended up inside Planet Fitness, where Chand held the victim at knifepoint for a short time before being taken to the ground and disarmed with the assistance of bystanders.
Due to minor injuries he sustained before the officers arrived, Chand was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. After being discharged, he was transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center and booked on suspicion of attempted murder. His bail has been set at $1,000,000.
