WALNUT CREEK — Police arrested twin brothers who allegedly attempted a carjacking at a downtown parking lot. The two men were taken into custody and safely on their way to jail in less than one hour.
They are believed responsible for a carjacking reported in-progress March 18 at 5:42 p.m. Officers responded to the 2500 block of North Main Street. They learned the victim was sitting inside his car when two men approached. The suspects opened the driver’s side and passenger doors.
The victim was dragged from his car and kicked in his stomach as the suspects attempted to steal his car. A witness nearby intervened and both suspects fled from the area. The victim sustained minor injuries and he was treated at the scene of the crime.
Officers investigating the incident saw the suspects running along Third Avenue. A perimeter was set up to apprehend the two men, who were later found hiding on Cameo Court.
The 20-year-old twins from Pittsburg, Emmanuel Hleza and William B. Hleza, were arrested at 6:36 p.m. They were booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of –

- Conspiracy to commit a crime PC 182
Bond was set at $350,000 for Emmanuel Hleza, no longer listed in the county jail roster. William Hleza remains behind bars in lieu of $100,000 bond, and he has been charged with attempted carjacking.
