Susanville, CA – On March 15, 2023, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in front of Riverside Park, leading to the arrest of two individuals on drug-related charges.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies pulled over a vehicle driven by Amy Marie Clapper, 33, of Westwood, CA, and identified her passenger as Beauregard Joseph Beavers, 28, also of Westwood. Upon running a warrant check on Beavers, it was discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
While a deputy was issuing Clapper a citation for vehicle code violations, the Lassen County Sheriff’s K9 “Hank” was utilized to conduct a free air sniff around the perimeter of Clapper’s vehicle. During the sniff, K9 Hank detected the presence of narcotics, providing the deputies with probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle.
The search led to the discovery of several plastic baggies containing various amounts of methamphetamine, a digital scale, a large number of unused plastic baggies, and 33 Adderall pills. Both Clapper and Beavers were placed under arrest.
A search of Clapper’s person led to the discovery of over $1500 in cash and additional methamphetamine. Deputies suspected that the cash was proceeds from the sales of narcotics and seized it. Asset forfeiture proceedings related to the seized cash are currently pending.
During a search of Beavers’ person, deputies found a glass smoking pipe commonly used to ingest controlled substances. All of the suspected methamphetamine found in the vehicle had a gross weight of approximately 121.6 grams, which is equivalent to approximately 1/4 pound.
Clapper and Beavers were subsequently booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges that include possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office commended the work of K9 Hank, stating that the dog’s positive alert provided the deputies with the probable cause they needed to search the vehicle, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of drugs and cash.
The Sheriff’s Office also reminded the public that drug-related crimes will not be tolerated in Lassen County and urged anyone with information about illegal drug activity to report it to law enforcement.
