Shasta Lake, CA – On Monday, March 20, 2023, at around 2:19 pm, deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a roll-over accident in the area of Ashby Road and Fort Peck Street in Shasta Lake City.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found a side-by-side UTV-style vehicle that had overturned, with two occupants. The driver of the UTV was identified as 32-year-old Ashton Strong, who showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. A juvenile who was also in the vehicle suffered injuries related to the incident and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Strong was given field sobriety tests and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, he was arrested and medically cleared before being booked into the Shasta County Jail for CVC 23153: Driving Under the Influence Causing Great Bodily Injury and PC 273a(a): Child Endangerment Likely to Cause Great Bodily Injury or Death.
The incident is a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. It is illegal and puts the lives of both the driver and other road users at risk. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and it will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute offenders.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to never drink and drive or operate any vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Instead, they advise people to plan ahead and use designated drivers, taxis, or ride-sharing services. By working together, the community can help prevent the tragic consequences that can result from impaired driving.
