A truck driver has been arrested in Clovis on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing into a canal one early morning last week.
According to a press release by Clovis PD, the incident occurred on Barstow near Peach just before 3 AM.
According to reports, officers responded to a call of a truck that had crashed and landed upside down in a canal. As they arrived on the scene, they noticed a Good Samaritan who had jumped into the canal to assist the driver to get out. The officers quickly used a safety rope to help both the driver and the Good Samaritan out of the cold water, police said.
The driver of the truck has been identified as 31-year-old Bryan Lopez of Clovis. Lopez only sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment before being booked into Fresno County Jail for suspicion of DUI. No other injuries were reported, police said.
Driving under the influence is a serious offense that can result in severe consequences, such as fines, license suspension or revocation, jail time, and even death. The risk of causing an accident and endangering the lives of others on the road is simply not worth it.
Never get behind the wheel if you are intoxicated or under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. It is essential to designate a sober driver or use a ride share service if you plan on consuming alcohol or any other substances that may impair your ability to drive safely.
Additionally, if you suspect someone is driving under the influence, it is crucial to call 911 immediately. Reporting suspected DUI drivers can help prevent accidents and save lives.
Law enforcement officials urge all motorists to make responsible choices when it comes to driving, and always prioritize safety on the road.
