“Oroville, CA – On Saturday April 1st, at approximately 7:57 a.m., BCSO dispatch received a 911 call of a burglary in progress, in the 7300 block of Highway 99, Oroville. The reporting party advised suspects were loading items into a gray Chevrolet Avalanche. BCSO deputies responded to the area and located a gray Chevy Avalanche driving northbound on Highway 99. When BCSO deputies attempted to stop the Chevy Avalanche, the vehicle failed to stop. Deputies pursued the vehicle toward Chico. BCSO requested assistance from the Chico Police Department and California Highway Patrol.
Chico police officers were able to deploy a spike strip, which was used to disable the vehicle. The vehicle stopped near the intersection of East 8th Street and Linden Street, Chico. Two male suspects fled from the vehicle on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the male passenger was detained without incident. The passenger was identified as Johnny Maroney Jr, of Oroville. Chico Police responded, created a perimeter of the area, and utilized an airborne drone to assist BCSO deputies in the search for the outstanding suspect. California Highway Patrol dispatched a helicopter to assist with the search.
After an extensive search of the area, the outstanding suspect was not located. Numerous stolen items were identified by the homeowner, and were recovered from the Chevy Avalanche. Maroney was booked into the Butte County Jail for an active felony arrest warrant, and several new charges including a violation of 459 PC – Burglary.
