Cotati Man Arrested in Alleged Domestic Battery Incident Involving His Two Children and Their Mother
A Sonoma County man was recently taken into police custody in connection to an alleged domestic battery incident involving his two children and their mother.
According to a press release by the Cotati Police Department, officers responded to a call reporting a battery on Wilford Lane late on the night of Monday, April 10. According to the victim, the suspect, who is reportedly their daughter’s boyfriend, was heavily intoxicated and had punched them during an argument.
The argument had started when the suspect attempted to take his two children and drive away with them, police said.
As officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the situation had escalated considerably, as the suspect was allegedly driving around with the two small children in the back of his truck, and the children’s mother was also in the bed of the pickup truck. She had seemingly been attempting to stop the suspect from fleeing with the children, police said.
When officers attempted to stop and contact the suspect, he fled the scene in the vehicle, reportedly driving erratically and at a high rate of speed on Highway 101. The mother of the children remained in the bed of the truck throughout the ordeal. Officers were able to catch up with the suspect and take him into custody without further incident. Tests later showed that his blood alcohol content (BAC) was .21%.
In the press release, Cotati Police also detailed a separate incident that also involved a highly intoxicated subject.
As Cotati officers were dealing with this chaotic incident, an unrelated vehicle collision occurred. Sonoma State University Police were called to assist until a Cotati officer became available. The driver in question had left the roadway and collided with a tree. Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. His blood-alcohol content came back at .18%, police said.
