In the early hours of April 4th, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department received a call from one of their sergeants reporting a reckless driver on Glenshire Drive. The driver, later identified as Vince Kay, was pulled over and the sergeant immediately noticed that he was not in his right state of mind. A field sobriety test was administered, which confirmed that Kay was driving under the influence of alcohol. But what the sergeant found next was even more alarming.
Upon conducting a search of Kay’s vehicle, the sheriff’s department discovered a loaded, unregistered Glock handgun concealed in the driver’s door pocket, as well as another unsecured firearm in the center console. These illegal weapons were not the only issue, as it was also discovered that Kay was a convicted felon and was not allowed to possess firearms.
The Nevada County Sheriff’s Department did not take the situation lightly, and Kay was immediately arrested for a multitude of offenses. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possession of an unregistered weapon, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, and driving on a suspended license.
Kay is currently being held in custody at the Nevada County Jail, and his bail has been set at $35,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 21st to face his charges. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Department urges anyone with information about this incident or any other criminal activity to contact them immediately.
