Kern County Man Arrested in Connection to Double Homicide, Armed Carjacking
A Kern County man has reportedly been arrested in connection to a double homicide on South Union Avenue, as well as a separate carjacking incident.
In a press release, the Sheriff’s Office identified 29-year-old Brian Castellon as the primary suspect in a shooting incident on the 1200 block of South Union Avenue on the afternoon of Monday, April 12, that left two adult male victims dead. Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the shooting and promptly dispatched deputies to the scene.
Upon arrival, the deputies discovered two male victims with multiple gunshot wounds. Medical assistance was called and both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment, but later passed away due to their injuries.
While investigating the scene, the Sheriff’s Office received additional reports of a situation taking place in the 200 block of Adams Street. Deputies responded immediately and found an individual with a firearm trying to flee on foot. The individual, later identified as Castellon, was apprehended without incident.
According to authorities, Castellon was allegedly involved in an armed carjacking and had shot one of the victims, causing minor injuries, before being caught by law enforcement.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit detectives took over the investigation and identified Castellon as the suspect in the South Union Avenue shooting incident. Castellon was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained prior to being detained and is expected to be booked into the Kern County Central Receiving Facility after receiving medical attention.
At this time, there are no other suspects in connection with the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. It was unclear at press time whether Castellon had retained an attorney. The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of their families.
