The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department recently conducted seventeen probation searches on probationers living in a local apartment complex with the assistance of the Sacramento County Probation officers. During the operation, detectives observed a male subject exiting a vehicle parked outside the apartment complex while holding a firearm. The detectives attempted to contact the subject as he entered the apartment complex, but he tried to flee on foot. He was later apprehended and a search conducted, which resulted in the detectives finding an unregistered handgun in the subject’s back pocket. The subject was detained and later booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on applicable charges.
During another search of a different probationer’s apartment, deputies discovered that the living conditions were unsafe for nine children, ranging from 7 months to 14 years old, who resided there with their parents. The deputies contacted Child Protective Service (CPS), and both parents were issued misdemeanor citations for child endangerment.
The operation conducted by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department resulted in the issuance of four violation of probation notices, two warrant arrests, one felony arrest, and two misdemeanor citations. The operation’s primary focus was on ensuring public safety by conducting probation searches and ensuring that probationers were complying with their terms and conditions.
The Sheriff’s Department is committed to keeping the community safe and ensuring that individuals on probation are following the conditions set forth by the courts. Sheriff Jones, in a statement to the press, emphasized the importance of conducting operations such as these, stating, “The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department takes the safety of our community seriously. The results of this operation underscore the importance of conducting probation searches to ensure compliance with the conditions of probation.”
