“No call is ever the same in a deputy’s world, whether it’s a call for service or a deputy-initiated call. The following arrest is a stark reminder of how a seemingly “routine” situation can potentially turn dangerous or deadly.
Last week, a Placer County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over along Foresthill Road in Auburn, to conduct a welfare check on an occupant inside a vehicle. The driver was ultimately detained, and a search of his vehicle revealed an illegally modified firearm with an intentionally covered serial number. The firearm had a front grip installed, in addition to attachments that allowed it to accept detachable magazines capable of firing ten-plus rounds of ammunition, which is illegal in the state of California. The driver, 62-year-old Eric Schuenemann of Sacramento, was arrested for illegally altering a firearm (23900 PC), and illegal possession of an assault weapon (30605(A) PC).
Thank you to the deputy who made the call to check on the vehicle and took this illegally modified firearm off the streets.”
